October, 2011 - Halloween Safety Tips
•Avoid costumes that block vision and side vision. A safer option is to decorate your child's face with make-up.
•Avoid sharp objects that are used as props, these can endanger your child's eyes as well as others.
•Make sure costumes are reflective. Sew on reflective fabric or use reflective tape so that your child can be seen while crossing the road
•Carry a flashlight to illuminate dark paths and walkways
•Follow guidelines for wearing decorative contact lenses. Remember, contact lenses are a medical device and require a valid prescription and proper fitting by your optometrist. If not used safely, contact lenses can lead to eye infections and vision loss.
Sept, 2011 - 80% of Learning is Visual
Did you know that 1 in 4 children have vision problems that interfere with learning?
A child's eyes are constantly in use in the classroom and at play and when his or her vision is not functioning properly, learning and participation in sports can suffer.
Detecting vision problems early is essential for your child's development and success in school.
Yearly vision and eye health exams are recommended for all children and youth.

July, 2011 - Summer is finally here...and so is the search for the perfect pair of sunglasses!
When choosing sunglasses, you need to look beyond the current trend to find a pair that is both functional, flattering and fits your face.
- Know your face shape: Those with long chins look best in upswept or butterfly-shaped lenses that draw the eyes upward, those with thinner faces should avoid thin-rimmed plastic frames, which make people look fragile. Chunky sunglasses can add extra weight to a chubby face. To make your face appear less round, it's best to stick to thinner rectangular frames.
- Check for comfort around the nose bridge and around the ears: The frame should fit snugly, but not tightly near the temples and ears. The arms should fit over the ears. The sunglasses shouldn't slip down from the nose, sometimes nose pads can help keep frames in place. You don't want to keep pushing the glasses back up.
- The right lenses: Polarized lenses help protect the eyes from the sun while presenting a clear image. Photochromic lenses, which get darker when exposed to ultraviolet rays but remain light indoors are a good choice for those with prescription lenses. Always make sure the lenses have UVA and UVB protection.
The frame stylists at Blink Eyewear will help you when choosing that perfect pair.
